Q: Do I have to attend for all 3 days?
A: No, not at all you can attend for 1, 2 or 3 days.
Q: Can I register for walks on the day?
A: Yes and No – see below.
Freedom Walks – Yes. You can register at The Park Traveller’s Lodge on the day however please arrive 30 minutes before your transport departs to allow time for registration and to attend the pre-walk safety briefing.
Guided Walks & Specialty One Day Trips – Sorry NO. Registrations for these walks (Tongariro Alpine Crossing – Guided, Mt Ruapehu Crater Lake – Guided, Whakahoro day trip, Wild Side day trip and Rotopounamu day trip) close Sunday 5 April 2010.
Q: Where is The Park Travellers’ Lodge (Event Head Quarters)?
A: It is situated on the corner of State Highway 4 and Millar Street in National Park Villa (Ruapehu Region).
Q: Can I freedom walk or do I have to be guided on the various walks?
A: Most walks can be freedom walked. Whakahoro (down on the Whanganui River) is privately owned land and is a one day guided package. We recommend that the Mt Ruapehu Crater Lake walk to be guided. The Tongariro Alpine Crossing is optional for either guided or freedom walking.
Q: Safety Briefings – Do I need to attend the pre-walk safety briefings?
A: Yes. Walking conditions in the region can change rapidly. We will provide you with information relating to up-to-date weather, clothing/gear requirements, nutriltional requirements, transport options etc.
Q: What do my entry fees pay for?
A:   You will receive a meal voucher. In addition we will make a donation to several charities i.e. Himalayan Trust and Tongariro Natural History Society. The balance covers the administration costs of running the Walking Festival.
Q: Parking – Where can I park my car?
A: You are most welcome to park at The Park traveller’s Lodge being the event Head Quarters.
Q: Children – Are children under 16 allowed to enter?
A: Definately, however all children under 16 must be accompanied and supervised by an Adult.
Q: Pushchairs – Can I take a pushchair?
A: A majority of the walks are not suitable for pushchairs. Please contact us direct for specific track information.
Q: Wheelchairs – Can I take a wheelchair?
A: A majority of the walks are not suitable for wheelchairs. Please contact us direct for specific track information.
Q: Food & Drink – Where can I get something to eat?
A: You will need to organise food prior to heading out on your walks each day. The Park Traveller’s Lodge offers a $15 lunch pack. The Park Traveller’s Lodge also has a large self cater kitchen. There is also a convenience store in National Park Village.
Q: Transport – How can I get to and from the various walks?
A: We will provide transport to and from the key walks. Prices will vary based on location.
Q: Currency – Can I pay with overseas currency?
A: Sorry our payment system only accepts New Zealand currency.
Q: Accommodation in the Region – Can you recommend a place to stay?
